UPI QR code for tuition fees: get one free and use it safely
Published 2026-10-09
A printed UPI QR code at your class lets a parent pay in a few seconds, with no number to type and no wrong UPI ID. Here is how to get one for free, how to use it, and the safety checks worth doing.
Where to find your own UPI QR code
Every UPI app that can receive money can show you a QR code linked to your UPI ID. Menu names change between versions, so look for options like "Your QR code", "My QR", "Receive money" or a QR icon - usually on your profile page or the home screen. Your bank's own app usually has one too.
Before printing, check that the QR shows your name exactly as parents will see it when they pay, and the UPI ID you actually want the money to go to.
Personal QR or business QR?
A personal QR (from your normal UPI app) is the simplest and costs nothing. Some UPI apps and banks also offer separate business or merchant accounts with their own QR codes and payment reports. Whether you need one depends on your volume and how you keep accounts; check the provider's current terms, fees and KYC requirements before switching, because these change.
Using the QR well
- Print it large and keep it where parents wait - not on a crowded noticeboard.
- Write your UPI ID in plain text under the QR, so a parent who can't scan can still type it.
- Ask parents to write the student's name and month in the payment note. It makes matching payments much easier.
- For families who pay from home, send your UPI ID and the exact amount on WhatsApp. A QR image in a chat works too, but a phone can't scan its own screen, so the UPI ID is often easier.
Safety checks
- Check your printed QR now and then: QR stickers can be covered or replaced. Scan it yourself and confirm your own name appears.
- You never need a PIN to receive money. If anyone asks a parent to "enter PIN to receive", it's a scam - say so in your class group.
- Only mark a fee paid after you see the money in your own app or bank statement, not from a screenshot alone.
Why not just send a payment request?
Person-to-person UPI "collect requests" were discontinued from 1 October 2025 under an NPCI directive, so a tutor can no longer pull money with a request from a personal UPI app. The parent has to start the payment - which is exactly what a QR code or your UPI ID makes easy. Keeping track once the money arrives
A QR makes paying easy; it doesn't tell you who hasn't paid. FeeSathi keeps the list of who owes for which month, puts your UPI ID in each WhatsApp reminder, and lets you send a receipt once you've confirmed the payment.
See who owes you, send a polite WhatsApp reminder with your UPI ID, and keep everything in an Excel file you can download. No signup, no app to install.
