How to stop chasing tuition fees every month (without awkward calls)

Published 2026-09-27

Every tuition teacher in India knows the scene. It's the 10th of the month. Three parents haven't paid. You teach their children every day, you like these people, and now you have to choose between your income and an awkward conversation. It's tempting to delay the conversation, and the dues pile up.

The fix is not willpower. It's a system with three parts.

1. Write every due month down where you can see it

Fees often go late not because parents refuse, but because nobody - including you - has a clear list of who owes what. A diary works until you have more than about 10 students or a couple of batches. You need one page that always answers: who has paid this month, who hasn't, and for which months.

2. Remind early, remind in writing

A short WhatsApp message on the 5th beats a phone call on the 20th. In writing, nobody loses face: the parent can reply with a date or simply pay. Keep it polite, specific and short - the student's name, the amount, the month. (We published five templates you can copy.)

3. Make paying take ten seconds

One common reason for late fees is friction, not intent. If your reminder includes your UPI ID and the exact amount, the parent can pay while still reading your message - no gateway, no commission, money straight into your account. (Whether a UPI link is tappable depends on the parent's phone and WhatsApp version, so always include the UPI ID as plain text too.)

The routine that works

On the 1st, glance at your dues list - ten seconds. On the 5th, tap one reminder per unpaid family. When money arrives, mark the month paid. That's the whole system, and it's what FeeSathi does free during its pilot: the dues list, a pre-written WhatsApp reminder with your UPI ID, and one tap to mark paid. No app to install, no account to create.

Chasing fees feels bad because it's unstructured. Structure it once, and it gets much easier.
